Remembering Alexander McQueen

Sadly Thursday morning Alexander McQueen was found dead in his London apartment. Though McQueen had an acknowledged history of drug use and wild behavior, the cause of death is said to be suicide. His career was very successful as he was an enormously creative and intelligent individual; his collections were truly a work of art. Altering the shape of the body using corsets and breast plates and commenting on current social and political matters were themes in his previous collections. In his most recent collection shown on the spring 2010 runway his work showed a very futuristic tone with sculptural platform shoes, reptile patterned digitally printed dresses and some spectacular colour combinations. The collection was meant to represent an apocalyptic forecast of the future ecological meltdown of the world. The four time winner of the British Designer of the Year award was still grieving the loss of style guru, friend and mentor Isabella Blow, and more recently the loss of his Mother Joyce. The world of fashion will truly greive the loss of this amazingly talented man, may he rest in peace.
"I think the idea of mixing luxury and mass-market fashion is very modern-wearing head-to-toe designer has become a bit passé. It’s a new era in fashion — there are no rules. It’s all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-end, low-end, classic labels, and up-and-coming designers all together. "
